#44 Followup

I can always count on Middlespacers to come to my rescue (both of you). I only hope to someday come to yours (well, if I can do it on this keyboard, that is).

A couple of posts back I was doing a periodic notebook dump. I periodically (thus periodic) post the stuff that has been lingering in my notebook without action for a few days (or, "dump"). One item was a question I had about women (yeah, I know, whaa-whaa). It seems, and you may have noticed this, that in America, being of blond hair has some sort of meaning. I was watching a middled-aged real estate type (dressing way too young for her soul) with nasty straw-colored blond hair and got to thinking, when does and how does that happen? Do you just go, It's blond now and my life will rule!

Middlespacer Richey (platinum member) has offered some insight:

"At what point in a young woman's life does she decide, then execute (really jump that hurdle), the blond dye job?"

I've noticed two distinct patterns.

The first is non-blonds. In my limited experience, most non-blonds start dying their hair blond around jr. high or early high school. A couple of years into puberty, it's essentially a tacit recognition that her m.o. has not been working out and is in need of a change. She'll show up at the beginning of the school year or after a family vacation to the Carribean with new blond hair and often new clothes. It's an effort to get sudden attention and it works, so she sticks with it, often for the rest of her life.

The second is former blonds. The hair of white people (myself included) often goes from a childhood blond or red to an adult brown. These women often dye later in life to preserve what once was. It's a more gradual transition to the full bottle job. These women often won't admit to dying their hair and will show photos of themselves as blond youth to try to prove it.

Great! Thanks Middlespacer Richey (platinum member)! Now insight me on boob jobs, toe rings, and tramp stamps and I'll have the complete knowledge of a woman.
