Oh, Now I Remember Michelle Obama

For those that know me well you all know my clueless side, right? A/K/A Todd Retard.

Well since forever I've always thought that Michelle Obama looked familiar to me. You know the feeling; that I-feel-I-know-her kind of feeling. Well, guh! How long has Barack Obama been running for president? Like four years, right? Just this morning I realized that I've met Michelle and spent some business time with her. Back in late 1993 in Chicago.

I was working on this evaluation of Clinton's Americorps program and I visited Public Allies in Chicago to learn everything about their program. It was one of my sites along with the Pennsylvania Service Corps and some state program in Kansas. I was in Chicago for several days talking to all the Public Allies program people and clients and such. And, yeah, I spent a bunch of time with Public Allies' Executive Director. Michelle. I even asked her about the origin of her name, Obama. She said her name was Robinson and she married into Obama.

I'm so clueless. I didn't realize it until I read the Obama article in Sunday's Washington Post Magazine, The Beginning of Something Big [clicky].

I remember thinking...OK, this is probably one of the smartest people I've ever met. Why is she slumming in some nonprofit program? Oh, she was community organizing just like Barry. I'm voting for her! Rich says that I'm now a Muslim terrorist too.

Best thing is, I'll once again be two degrees of separation from the president. The other was Clinton.
